OPEN PANEL — Token / DAO Naming Clearance
OPEN PANEL — Token / DAO Naming Clearance
Section titled “OPEN PANEL — Token / DAO Naming Clearance”Availability + brand-clearance diligence for a token / DAO sub-brand under the OPEN PANEL masthead. Drives the collectible/DAO layer naming (CANON §1 brand architecture; ties to the tokenization track). Status: DRAFT v0.1 — live-checked 2026-06-13. Not a legal trademark clearance — a USPTO/attorney knockout is still required before any public launch. Token-ticker collisions noted are informational; tickers are not unique.
1. Method & reliability (what’s authoritative here vs. what you must check by hand)
Section titled “1. Method & reliability (what’s authoritative here vs. what you must check by hand)”| Signal | Source | Reliability |
|---|---|---|
| Domain registered? | dig NS (a registered domain ~always has nameservers) + RDAP | High for “has NS = taken”; “no NS = likely free” |
ENS .eth owned? | api.ensideas.com resolve (address set or null) | Medium-high — 0x… = owned; null = likely free but verify on app.ens.domains (a name can be owned with no address set) |
| Token ticker exists? | CoinGecko / CMC / DEX search | High for “a notable token exists”; tickers are not globally unique, so “none found” ≠ exclusive |
| Trademark | Justia/USPTO search | Indicative only — not a legal clearance |
| Social handles (X / TG / Discord) | — | CANNOT be auto-cleared. t.me/<x> returns a generic “Contact” page for any string; X is a 200-returning SPA; Discord has no public username lookup. Verify by attempting registration at signup. |
2. ★ LONGBOX — recommended handle set + registry status
Section titled “2. ★ LONGBOX — recommended handle set + registry status”The longbox is literally where collectors archive their issues → ideal name for the collectible / DAO layer. Weak as a standalone masthead (generic + the Longbox Digital ghost, §5), so it sits under OPEN PANEL / VARIANT, not over them.
| Asset | Pick | Registry status | Action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domain (primary) | longbox.foundation | ✅ Available (no NS) | Register — on-thesis, matches entity |
| Domain (short) | longbox.box | ✅ Available (no NS) | Register as redirect |
.com / .io / .xyz | — | ❌ Registered | Skip |
| ENS | longbox.eth | 🟡 No address set → likely free | Verify on app.ens.domains; register if open |
| Token ticker | $LONGBOX | ✅ No notable token | Clear to deploy |
| X / Telegram / Discord | @longboxdao (or @longboxhq / @getlongbox) | ⚠️ Manual — bare @longbox almost certainly gone | Register the …dao convention across all three at once |
| Trademark | LONGBOX — | Dead LONGBOX DIGITAL mark (abandoned 2010); term is generic in comics + dead-startup ghost | Fine for a token/sub-brand; run a real knockout pre-launch |
3. Contender matrix (token-clean field, live-checked)
Section titled “3. Contender matrix (token-clean field, live-checked)”| Ticker | $token | .foundation | .box | other TLD | .eth ENS | TM / brand baggage | Comics meaning | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PULLBOX | ✅ none* | ✅ free | ✅ free | ✅ .xyz free | 🟡 free | Low — distinctive | ”pull box” = your subscription hold | ★ Cleanest whitespace |
| LONGBOX | ✅ none | ✅ free | ✅ free | ❌ taken | 🟡 free | Med — generic + ghost | collector’s archive | ★ Best meaning |
| BACKISSUE | ✅ none | ✅ free | ✅ free | ❌ taken | 🟡 free | Low–med — generic; “old issue” reads stale | back-catalog | Solid alternate |
| ASHCAN | 🟡 $ASH taken (full word free) | 🟡 likely free | ✅ free | ❌ taken | ❌ owned | Low — distinctive | ashcan = cheap promo/preview edition (great free-issue fit) | Good meaning, but ENS gone + $ASH clash |
| INKWELL | ✅ name free | ✅ free | ✅ free | ❌ owned | Med — clashes w/ INK (Kraken L2) | ink / creation | ⬇ ENS gone + INK confusion | |
| FLOPPY | ❌ multiple | — | — | — | — | meme-coin collisions | ”floppy” = a single issue (insider) | ✗ token-dirty |
| SLAB | ❌ 4+ | — | — | — | — | many SLAB tickers | graded slab (great meaning) | ✗ token-dirty |
* PULLBOX: Pullix (PLX) is adjacent but a different name/ticker — mild only.
4. Rejected tickers (with reasons)
Section titled “4. Rejected tickers (with reasons)”| Ticker | Why rejected |
|---|---|
| PAGE | $PAGE is PageDAO — an existing publishing DAO. Direct vertical collision. |
| VARIANT | Variant Fund (major crypto VC) owns the namespace. Keep VARIANT as the brand, not the token. |
| INK | Ink is a Kraken-backed L2 chain. Hard no. |
| PULP | 3+ tokens (Aurigami, PulpCoin, PulsePEPE). |
| OMNIBUS | Collides with Omni Network ($OMNI). |
| GUTTER | Gutter Cat Gang NFT association. |
| ONESHOT | ONESHOT token live on Base + others; oneshot.eth owned. |
| PRESTIGE | Multiple PRESTIGE tokens (BSC/Polygon/ETH); prestige.eth and prestige.foundation owned. |
| CANON | CanonChain (CZR) + Canon Crypto (CATO) exist; plus the Canon camera-brand trademark. |
5. Referentials (precedents to benchmark — and landmines)
Section titled “5. Referentials (precedents to benchmark — and landmines)”| Project (ticker) | What it is | Relevance to OPEN PANEL |
|---|---|---|
PageDAO ($PAGE) | Books/publishing DAO + onchain content | Closest vertical precedent; and why $PAGE is off the table |
Story Protocol ($IP) | L1 for programmable IP licensing + onchain royalty modules | Candidate rights/royalty registry layer mirroring CANON §6 Ledger |
| Zora (Coins Protocol, on Base) | Creator-coin issuance; perpetual royalties + fee-share | Recommended issuance layer for the consumer/collectible coin |
| Azuki / “Bobu” | Anime IP; a character fractionalized into a community token | Precedent for a community-owned character/universe |
| Pudgy Penguins | NFT IP → mass-market toys (Walmart/Target) | Proof of the VARIANT thesis: cheap/free IP → licensed merch flywheel |
| VeeFriends | Gary Vaynerchuk character IP + tokens + comics | Creator-brand + collectible precedent |
| Longbox Digital | ”iTunes for comics,” collapsed 2011 | ⚠️ The ghost on the LONGBOX name — manage the narrative |
| Variant Fund | Major crypto VC | ⚠️ Name-collision landmine for “VARIANT” as a token |
| Ink (Kraken L2) | Exchange L2 chain | ⚠️ Taints INK / INKWELL |
| Gutter Cat Gang | NFT collection | ⚠️ Taints GUTTER |
6. Two-layer issuance note
Section titled “6. Two-layer issuance note”Best architecture splits the “fun” token from the “serious IP rights”:
- Consumer / collectible coin on Base via Zora — reach, fiat onramps, Coinbase-grade prestige, perpetual-royalty rails. This is the community/membership token (kept non-financial to stay clear of Howey — see the tokenization track).
- IP rights + royalty registry on Story Protocol (or just the off-chain Ledger) — the programmable-license + royalty layer that mirrors CANON §6. This is where real royalty mechanics live, away from the consumer token.
7. Registration register (operator-executed — needs wallet/payment)
Section titled “7. Registration register (operator-executed — needs wallet/payment)”Once a ticker is chosen (recommend LONGBOX for meaning, PULLBOX for max whitespace):
- Domains —
<name>.foundation(+.box) via any registrar (~$20–40/yr.foundation). - ENS —
<name>.ethon app.ens.domains (verify free; ~$5/yr for 7-char; gas). - Socials — register
@<name>daoon X, Telegram, Discord in one sitting (manual). - Token ticker — reserve nothing on-chain until the entity/legal wrapper exists; ticker is claimed at deploy time.
These are outward/paid actions — operator executes; agent prepares the list only.
8. Open decisions
Section titled “8. Open decisions”- Ticker: LONGBOX (meaning) vs PULLBOX (whitespace) vs BACKISSUE (neutral). Recommend LONGBOX.
- Token nature: non-financial membership/collectible (recommended) vs royalty-RWA (securities-heavy).
- Issuance chain: Base/Zora (recommended) vs Solana vs Story Protocol for rights layer.
- Legal wrapper: Cayman Foundation Company vs Wyoming DUNA (ties to the steward/golden-share entity).
